ICT Security Incidents in the Civil Service

The Government Security Incident Response Team (G-SIRT) aims to respond effectively to ICT Security incidents reported by governmental departments.

The G-SIRT monitors and controls an Automated ICT Security Incident Handling System (AISIHS) to achieve better tracking and timely resolution of incidents. The system allows the online recording of ICT Security incidents occurring at any governmental department.

The benefits of incident management by the G-SIRT include:

•      timely resolution of incidents, reducing business impact and increasing effectiveness;

•      proactive identification of beneficial system enhancements;

•      generation of informative statistics and reports for effective decision making; and

•      information sharing on security threats to protect Government infrastructures.

Upon the reporting of an incident by a government site, the AISIHS has an in-built workflow that escalates the incident to the G-SIRT of IT Security Unit. IT security professionals are allocated for the follow up of the incident, liaising with respective stakeholders depending on the type of incident.

The AISIHS automated workflow also includes electronic interactions with the Government Email Service provider and the Government Data Centre teams. The incidents are investigated until resolution with recommendations as applicable to the government sites. Various types of incidents are tackled by the teams - see summary Report.
