The Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Dr. Avinash Ramtohul has 27 years of experience in the IT industry across the Middle East and Africa.
For the past 10 years, he has served as Managing Director for global IT companies based in Mauritius.
Dr. Ramtohul holds an impressive array of academic qualifications, including a PhD (TEC scholarship), LLM with a focus on Artificial Intelligence, LLB Hons with a focus on Digital Rights, an MBA, an MSc (Government scholarship), and a BSc. His studies were completed at esteemed institutions such as the University of Mauritius, the University of Central Lancashire (UK), the University of Bristol (UK), and the University of Pune (India).
He is recognized as a Chartered Manager by the Chartered Management Institute (UK) and a Chartered IT Professional by the Chartered Institute for IT (UK). Additionally, he supervises PhD students, contributing to academic growth and research.
Dr. Ramtohul has authored numerous business and academic publications, including contributions to international journals and presentations at global conferences on topics such as e-government and information security. His doctoral research focused on digitizing government services, with a specialization in information security for e-government systems.
A sought-after keynote speaker, Dr. Ramtohul addresses regional conferences on digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and information security. His legal studies have also emphasized cyber legislation, further enriching his multidisciplinary expertise.
Beyond his professional and academic pursuits, Dr. Ramtohul has lectured part-time at various universities in Mauritius for 15 years. In 2010, he was honored as “IT Person of the Year” by the Chartered Institute for IT Professionals in Mauritius.
As the founder of Talentia (Mauritius), Dr. Ramtohul delivers pro bono training sessions on “Personal Leadership and Influence” to young people nationwide, showcasing his commitment to youth development.
Since September 2022, Dr. Ramtohul has been a member of the Political Bureau of the Labour Party in Mauritius.
Dr Avinash Ramtohul holds a black belt in Jujutsu and has a keen interest in martial arts. His hobbies also include playing football.
