A one-day workshop, organised by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) under the aegis of the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, entitled \u201cMeasuring What Matters: Empowering Internet Users with Crowdsourced Quality of Service\u201d, opened, this morning, at the Hennessy Park Hotel in Eb\u00e8ne.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Dr Avinash Ramtohul; the Chairman of ICTA, Mr Tassarajen Pillay Chedumbrum, as well as stakeholders from the ICT sector.<\/p>

The workshop focused on the implementation of a crowdsourced solution, the \u2018KaliteNet\u2019 platform, designed to assess the quality of internet services throughout the Republic of Mauritius. By collecting real-time user feedback on internet speed, reliability, latency, and overall performance, the initiative aims to provide more accurate and transparent data to improve regulatory oversight and service delivery within the country\u2019s digital ecosystem.<\/p>

In his keynote address, Minister Ramtohul described the initiative as a major milestone in Mauritius\u2019 digital transformation journey, noting that it introduces a new user-centred approach to internet quality assessment. He emphasised that empowering consumers through real-time crowdsourced data would help strengthen transparency, accountability, and value for money in the ICT sector.<\/p>

The Minister also underlined that the project forms part of broader digital reforms being implemented by Government, including mobile number portability, stronger data protection measures, and the modernisation of electronic transactions. He highlighted the growing importance of robust ICT infrastructure and reliable network performance amid increasing demand for digital services and artificial intelligence technologies.<\/p>

For his part, Mr Pillay Chedumbrum stated that ICTA is pursuing ongoing efforts to modernise quality-of-service monitoring through innovative regulatory tools. He explained that the \u2018KaliteNet\u2019 platform will allow users to independently test internet speed and service quality in real time, while enabling ICTA to obtain a clearer national overview of internet performance and take corrective action where necessary.<\/p>

The programme also featured a live demonstration of the platform, technical discussions on consumer empowerment and data transparency, as well as a knowledge-sharing session with the Institut Luxembourgeois de R\u00e9gulation, during which international best practices were presented.<\/p>

KaliteNet<\/p>

\u2018KaliteNet\u2019 is a free, user-friendly application that allows users to test the quality of their broadband internet connection anywhere in the Republic of Mauritius. It can be downloaded online via its website at https:\/\/kalitenet.icta.mu, as well as on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Huawei AppGallery.<\/p>
