An initiative of the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation in collaboration with GIS, the launch also marks the integration of real-time national power supply updates from the Central Electricity Board (CEB) and the GIS News into the Government\u2019s \u201cKOREK!\u201d Super App.<\/p>

It forms part of the Government\u2019s ongoing efforts to modernise digital public service delivery. By bringing together multiple isolated applications into a single platform, KOREK! aims to enhance coordination, improve accessibility and provide citizens with a seamless and efficient digital experience.<\/p>

The launch ceremony was graced by the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Dr Avinash Ramtohul, the Director of GIS, Mr Lutchmeeparsad Ramdhun, the Communication Manager of the CEB, Mr Thierry J. Ramasawmy, and other personalities.<\/p>

In his keynote address, Dr Ramtohul emphasised that the app provides a unified, user-friendly interface for citizens, addressing the challenges posed by multiple isolated applications. He noted that integrating GIS news and real-time power supply updates represents a significant step in ensuring immediate access to essential information, enabling citizens to respond promptly, particularly in managing energy consumption. Dr Ramtohul further indicated that additional services will be progressively introduced to reinforce the platform as a comprehensive digital gateway.<\/p>

Mr Ramdhun, for his part, highlighted GIS\u2019s core mandate of ensuring the timely, accurate and reliable dissemination of Government information to the public regarding projects, policies, programs and activities. He stressed the importance of having an official and trusted source in an era of rapidly spreading digital content and misinformation. The reach of GIS digital platforms, he noted, is growing, with millions of content views, reflecting strong public engagement. According to him, the Mobile App is a cost-effective and user-friendly tool that strengthens transparency and citizen engagement by providing verified information directly at users\u2019 fingertips.<\/p>

Mr Ramasawmy explained that the inclusion of national power supply updates in the \u201cKOREK!\u201d Super App is a proactive measure to promote responsible energy consumption. The alert system uses colour-coded indicators namely, green for comfortable reserves, yellow when reserves fall to around 30% and red when below 15%, to reflect supply conditions. He stressed that collective responsibility in energy-saving practices is vital to safeguarding the stability of Mauritius\u2019s electricity grid.<\/p>

The GIS Mobile App<\/p>

The GIS Mobile App provides instant access to Government news, communiqu\u00e9s, videos and emergency alerts within a single interface. It can be used without registration, though users may create an account for a personalised experience with customised content. Key features include push notifications for breaking news, automatic emergency alerts, audio summaries, live streaming of national events, easy navigation to sections such as Cabinet Decisions, Vacancies, Tenders, and Public Notices, offline bookmarking and interface customisation through language and display settings.<\/p>

Now integrated into the \u201cKOREK!\u201d Super App, GIS News ensures citizens receive immediate notifications, strengthening transparency, connectivity, and public engagement while establishing the platform as a central, reliable and accessible information hub.<\/p>
