stakeholders of regulatory bodies, telecommunications operators, representatives of non-governmental organisations and other personalities were present at the launching.<\/p><p>Minister Ramtohul highlighted the growing concerns\u00a0regarding\u00a0child online safety, noting that\u00a0an average of 17 cybercrime cases are reported daily\u00a0with\u00a0unreported incidents.\u00a0He underscored that the introduction of the SIM card coinciding\u00a0with\u00a0Human Rights Day\u00a02025,\u00a0forms part of Government\u2019s efforts to\u00a0empower parents with tools to safeguard their children online.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6f76afb e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"6f76afb\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1333fa6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1333fa6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Dr Ramtohul reaffirmed Government\u2019s commitment to ongoing collaboration to address digital threats and to ensure that children can access the internet in a secure and supportive environment.\u00a0He also mentioned that Government is\u00a0working towards strengthening\u00a0digital rights.<\/p><p>The Minister\u00a0also drew attention to the dangers posed by illegal and harmful online content, including self-harm challenges, drug-related activities and other inappropriate material. He called on the media, digital platforms and social networks to operate within\u00a0legal and regulatory frameworks, including the Data Protection Act and the ICTA Act, to uphold the rights and privacy of minors while preserving freedom of expression.<\/p><p>The\u00a0launching of the\u00a0SIM card\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0first phase\u00a0of the initiative, a\u00a0second phase\u00a0will involve introduction of\u00a0routers to\u00a0enable\u00a0parents manage\u00a0access to online platforms and websites.<\/p><p>The three national telecommunications operators namely\u00a0Mauritius Telecom, Emtel and Chili\u00a0presented the specific child-protection features integrated into their respective SIM packs.<\/p><p>The new SIM card comprises\u00a0age-appropriate content filters, real-time monitoring alerts, restricted access to harmful websites, and parental dashboard controls.
