The Additional Director General of Police and Managing Director of the Maharashtra Cyber Crime Security Corporation, Mr Yashasvi Yadav, and the Chief Information Security Officer of Larsen & Toubro Technology Services, Colonel Sachin Saxena, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, this afternoon, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis. They were accompanied by the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Dr Avinash Ramtohul.<\/p>

In a statement\u00a0after\u00a0the meeting, Minister Ramtohul recalled that the courtesy call follows up on the Prime Minister\u2019s recent visit to India, during which he met with the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr Devendra Fadnavis, and Mr Yashasvi Yadav.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Highlighting Mr Yadav\u2019s expertise in cybersecurity and cybercrime prevention, Dr Ramtohul stated that the Government of Mauritius is seeking the support of the Government of Maharashtra to develop a national strategy to prevent cybercrime and enhance online safety. \u201cIt is imperative to make the Internet a safe space for all Mauritians,\u201d he said, while urging citizens to use the Internet responsibly. He reiterated Government\u2019s vision to ensure that the digital environment serves as a secure platform for business, education, innovation, and social development.<\/p>

For his part, Mr Yadav expressed his honour in meeting Prime Minister Ramgoolam and emphasised the growing global threat of cybercrime, which, according to him, generates proceeds exceeding USD 6 trillion annually. He underscored the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing to beef up cybersecurity systems.<\/p>

Mr Yadav also briefed the Prime Minister on the Maharashtra Cyber Security Project, which was recently recognised at the UN Convention in Hanoi, Vietnam,\u00a0as one of the world\u2019s leading cybersecurity initiatives. The project aims to enhance cybersecurity infrastructure, combat online harassment and malicious content, and bolster law enforcement capabilities through cutting-edge technologies and expert training.<\/p>

Discussions also focused on equipping Mauritius\u2019 refurbished Cybercrime Unit with advanced tools, technologies, and specialised personnel. Mr Yadav stressed the need for a coordinated and sustainable partnership between Mauritius and India to address emerging cyber threats effectively. He said that the initiative could include establishing a national cyber helpline to enable citizens to report cybercrimes promptly, thereby strengthening public trust in Government protection mechanisms.<\/p>
