The Mauritius Post Ltd (MPL) has planned a wide range of activities from 09 to 30 October 2025 to mark World Post Day, which is commemorated annually on 9 October. In this context, the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Dr Avinash Ramtohul, held a press conference today, 06 October 2025, at the Head Office of the MPL in Port Louis, in presence of the Chairperson of the MPL, Mrs Lovena Sowkhee, and the CEO of the MPL, Mr Anil Seeruttun.<\/p>

Established by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1969, World Post Day promotes international cooperation and ensures postal networks are universal, efficient and accessible. This year marks the 151st edition of World Post Day, a symbolic occasion to honour the role of postal services in citizens\u2019 daily lives.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

As part of the activities, the new Mapou Post Office will officially be inaugurated on 9 October 2025, coinciding with the launch of a commemorative stamp celebrating Mauritius at World Expo 2025. Moreover, a special stamp exhibition, featuring stamps from various countries and UPU issues, will run from 10 to 30 October.<\/p>

Employees will undergo health check-ups organised by the Ministry of Health and Wellness at the MPL\u2019s Training Academy, while the Postal Museum will welcome Mauritians for a free visit from 9 to 11 October 2025. Additionally, open days at selected Post Offices, including school visits and presentations on the MPL\u2019s products and services, will provide opportunities for public engagement.<\/p>

Minister Ramtohul\u00a0recalled the historical significance of the MPL, one of the country\u2019s oldest institutions, established in 1772. \u201cMauritius Post has been serving the nation for over 253 years, evolving from a simple envelope delivery service between Mahebourg and Port Louis to a nationwide network that reaches every corner of the country,\u201d the Minister stated.<\/p>

Dr Ramtohul announced that the MPL, with the UPU\u2019s support, has acquired five new vehicles to improve distribution services. He also spoke of the integration of a new mobile application to enhance parcel tracking and user accessibility. Strategic partnerships with local service outlets were outlined to expand the MPL\u2019s operational reach.<\/p>

The Minister emphasised the importance of adapting to globalisation and technological advancements, noting the shift from traditional mail to parcel handling and the growing demand for regional warehousing solutions. \u201cDigital technology offers vast opportunities to increase efficiency, yet it requires a strategic re-evaluation of the postal business model to meet contemporary needs,\u201d he added.<\/p>

The Chairperson of MPL reaffirmed the organisation\u2019s commitment to modernisation and operational excellence. She highlighted the central role of employees in all initiatives and presented measures to improve staff wellbeing, including health check-ups and open engagement sessions to ensure that every employee understands and contributes to the MPL\u2019s vision.<\/p>

For his part, Mr Seeruttun, detailed ongoing and upcoming initiatives to strengthen the organisation\u2019s performance. He pointed to digitisation, strategic collaborations, and customer-focused services as key drivers of the MPL\u2019s growth, while emphasising optimised parcel collection and delivery through better resource allocation. He also reassured the public that robust measures are in place to address operational challenges and enhance service efficiency.<\/p>
